It increasingly appears that Trent Alexander-Arnold will depart for Real Madrid, while Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk will also leave as things stand. There are doubts over Caoimhin Kelleher and Ibrahima Konate as they enter the final years of their own contracts.

And then there’s more. Anfield Watch understands that Liverpool want to overhaul their attacking options this summer.

That means shipping several stars out of the club and finding replacements as Liverpool look to give Arne Slot a forward line built for him. The current crop, of course, were all signed to play under Jurgen Klopp.

But a similar rebuild could come in defence, too. Liverpool want a left-back and will almost certainly need to find a right-back. Then the doubts at centre-back probably necessitate a signing there, too.

With the latter in mind, there is a chance to do something completely crazy.

Stop EVERYTHING: Harry Kane wants to join Liverpool

Jarrad Branthwaite to Liverpool?

Liverpool have looked into a deal for Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite for some time now. It appeared a little possible back when the Toffees were massive relegation candidates.

Liverpool FC news: Clear frontrunner emerges for next Reds striker as Alvarez sends MASSIVE come and get me plea

They've corrected their course, however, making it a lot less likely that Branthwaite leaves the club. Liverpool will always struggle to force a transfer there without something like Everton's relegation as the local rivals essentially refuse to sell across Stanley Park (though, of course, there will be no sales across the park after this season with Everton moving grounds).

Just look at what happened the last time Liverpool tried to sign someone from Everton.

But there is a way in here. The Mirror reports that Branthwaite is seriously considering his future at Everton and is lined up to push for a move this summer.

Now, that doesn't mean a move to Liverpool necessarily but the report mentions the Reds as one of the main parties interested in Branthwaite. We imagine his new-found desire to move on comes from Thomas Tuchel leaving him out of the England setup, something that almost certainly doesn't happen if he's playing European football.

Liverpool would give him that - and so here's Hughes's opportunity to push for a transfer. Persuade Branthwaite that the Reds are the club for him and Everton may be forced to listen.

It's really the only way this transfer can happen and it might just be enough.
