Liverpool refuse to write-off truly SHOCKING £75m transfer
Liverpool have their eyes on a major £75m transfer that they're refusing to give up on. It's incredibly difficult to get the deal done.
Liverpool will almost certainly make some sort of move for a centre-back in the summer. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll actually sign one.
Liverpool Transfer Latest: Alexander Isak deal INEVITABLE as agent drops massive hint
After all, the club's recruitment staff are picky. We saw that as clear as day last summer with the Martin Zubimendi pursuit.
Liverpool wanted Zubimeni and pushed to sign him. When he eventually said no, there was no alternative signing and the Reds simply stuck with what they already had.
So when Liverpool go looking at centre-backs this summer, they will have a list of targets that they won't move from. That list could, as with 2024, feature just one name (is that technically still a list?).

We do think there will be multiple names on it this time, though. Dean Huijsen appears set to be on there, for instance.
And he won't be the only one. There's reportedly another centre-back wanted by Liverpool - and he's almost impossible to sign.
Liverpool eye Jarrad Branthwaite
Liverpool have wanted to sign Jarrard Branthwaite for years. The moment he broke into the starting XI at Everton, though, that became incredibly difficult to do.
There was talk last summer that Liverpool were going to try. Then when Everton kicked off this campaign with relegation form, signing Branthwaite actually looked a bit possible.

They've now turned things around, of course, and relegation looks far away. But that hasn't entirely stopped Liverpool from dreaming.
They're refusing to write-off a transfer for Branthwaite. The Daily Mail reports that the Reds have maintained a watching brief on the defender this season, suggesting they foresee an opportunity to sign him.
Now, the 'problem' is that several other clubs are also watching Branthwaite. Literally all of them have a better chance of persuading Everton to sell, too.

No one should hold their breath on this one, then. Signing from Everton is near-impossible for Liverpool and Abel Xavier remains the last to do so back in 2002.
The idea of the Toffees selling arguably their most valuable asset to Liverpool would be truly shocking and something they've literally never done before. Still, it seems the Reds will try.
