Liverpool should POUNCE on Bayern mistake to sign £150m superstar

Liverpool could be presented with an ideal opportunity to add an electrifying attacking talent to the squad next summer.

Florian Wirtz, 21, is expected to leave Bayer Leverkusen after another impressive season. The Germany international has scored 15 goals and added 12 assists across 34 Bundesliga and Champions League games thus far.

He is under contract at Xabi Alonso’s club until 2027 but is attracting extensive attention in the transfer market. Manchester City and Real Madrid are reported to be among Wirtz’s suitors but domestic rivals Bayern Munich are also lurking.

"His great campaign with Xabi Alonso's team has earned him praise from the best clubs in the world, who have proposed signing him at the end of the season,” writes Mundo Deportivo.

Bayern obsessed with Musiala

Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness is on the record stating his admiration for Wirtz, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, missing Leverkusen’s Champions League last 16 return leg against the Bavarians.

And if Bayern do end up going for the playmaker, then it could derail their plans for a long-time Liverpool target in Jamal Musiala.

It’s likely to be an expensive operation to get Wirtz and Bayern could finance it by cashing in on Musiala.

Musiala's got a Bayern release clause

The 22-year-old recently signed a Bayern contract extension, which ties him to the club until 2030 but it contains a release clause. It’s said to be around €175 million (£148m) for summer 2025 and could leave the door open for a mammoth offer.

He’s got 17 goals and seven assists across 36 games in all competitions this season for Bayern. The duo play on either side of the attack for the national team but at club level tend to drift into the same space.

If Bayern decide to build their future attack around Wirtz then it could open the door to the possibility of Musiala departing. And if that happens then Liverpool should be on alert.

Musiala is the type of player who could come in and IMMEDIATELY challenge Dominik Szoboszlai for his starting position.
