Liverpool transfers are under the spotlight again thanks to this INCREDIBLE STAT

An incredible statistic has shone an even brighter spotlight on Liverpool transfers in 2024. Or lack thereof.

You've likely noticed that Liverpool haven't signed any players this summer. Cast your mind back and you'll also remember that they didn't sign any in January, either.

It means the Reds are on course to sign no one in 2024. Now, that could change in the new couple of weeks before the window closes but no transfers seem particularly close.

The closest would be Giorgi Mamardashvili, who Liverpool might bring in from Valencia. Though, 'bring in' is stretching it - the plan is actually to immediately loan him out, likely to Bournemouth.

That would mean their only transfer in 2024 would be to sign a player for another club. It's a unique situation.

Literally unique. As pointed out on Twitter by Joseph Cousins, there are 132 clubs across Europe's top 7 leagues but only one of them is yet to sign a player in 2024.

That would be Liverpool, of course.

Unique Liverpool in 2024

Now, Liverpool have tried to sign a player. They really wanted to get Martin Zubimeni from Real Sociedad but the midfielder ended up rejecting them at the death.

Before that, the Reds pushed to sign Leny Yoro from Lille, only for the money involved to get out of hand. They're now left without any new signings.

That will naturally shine a light on the club. For one thing, they changed sporting director this summer. Richard Hughes hasn't landed anyone since taking over - but he can't be blamed for the lack of action in January.

Instead, the 'culprit' is the Reds' belief that they should only sign players when it's absolutely necessary. They don't want to block the path of young players and believe their squad is currently full of talent who will end up being better than the players they could sign.

We're not going to know if that's the right idea or not until we've seen how these players develop. Right now, though, there's a lot of trust going into them.

More trust, it seems, than any other club in Europe is putting in their players.
