Liverpool and Konate's contract conundrum

The France international has emerged this season as one of the most consistent defenders around and has shaken off his considerable injury issues for the most part.

Liverpool would love to keep him at Anfield long term but it’s going to take a sizeable effort to sign him up. However, there are some encouraging signs at least.

Anfield Watch initially brought you the news that PSG were interested in recruiting Konate. And he had a chance to get acquainted with his hometown club during the Champions League last-16 first leg at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night.

Konate was at the heart of the action, with one defensive intervention leaving PSG director Luis Campos outraged.

With the game locked at 0-0, Konate appeared to make contact with Bradley Barcola and the France international was left sprawled on the grass. The matchday officials opted against taking action, with Campos asking for either a red card or a penalty.

Konate's EMPHATIC celebrations

Liverpool emerged victorious courtesy of a late Harvey Elliott winner and chief among the celebrating players afterwards was Konate. He was spotted fist-pumping, emphatically commemorating a historic Reds win.

Liverpool fans are desperate to see Konate sign a new deal and it would appear that this is the club where he wants to be. He remains enthusiastic in victory and looks set to add to his medal collection this season.
