Liverpool have been told to pay a high price if they truly do want to add to their midfield this summer. Over to you, Richard Hughes.

We're anticipating a big summer from Liverpool. Now, we know what you're thinking: this is suggested every year.

But we're not sure they really have a choice in 2025. For one, the Reds only added Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili last summer, with the former barely featuring under Arne Slot.

The latter isn't even at the club yet - he'll technically be the first addition of 2025.

The contract situations with Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold could force further transfers, though. As could the fact that Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate are entering the final years of their own contracts.

Anfield Watch also understands that a major summer overhaul is coming upfront. Liverpool want to shake things up and give Slot a forward line that actually suits him.

And that's before we get into the fact that Liverpool tried and failed to add a midfielder last summer. Even with the success of this campaign, it seems unlikely that they won't have a look at new options.

One of those potential options now has an asking price, too.

Hugo Larsson's price

Liverpool have been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Larsson this season. The Swede has firmly established himself in the first-team there, despite the fact he's still only 20.

Larsson is clearly one for the future and Europe's elite will be sniffing around. That's led Frankfurt to slap a price tag on their man.

Fussball.news reports that Frankfurt will want €60m from any interested clubs this summer. It's a lot of money for a young midfielder like Larsson, and it goes some way to show just how highly rated he is.

The question is whether Liverpool actually need to drop that kind of cash. We're not sure they do, given how many other positions need players.

The midfield is actually looking elite right now and any additions would almost certainly be squad players behind the current crop. That's not a €60m investment, as good as Larsson is.

So we think this one might put Liverpool off a bit. Others want to sign him (Chelsea are linked) and we imagine he'll be snapped up by someone else.

For the Reds, that money is probably spent better elsewhere.
