Hugo Ekitike is doing all he could possibly do to be Liverpool's first €100m signing. The Reds could make it happen later this year.

Liverpool are in the market for a new no.9 this summer. And that's only partly because Darwin Nunez is expected to leave the club.

Anfield Watch exclusively revealed back in January that there was an offer from Saudi Arabia for Nunez. Liverpool rejected that offer but it's expected to be there once again in the summer.

And the Reds will almost certainly sell Nunez. The bigger question is whether they sell Diogo Jota as well - but that one will depend entirely on the kind of offers put forward.

Liverpool simply know they've got to upgrade their striker, though. They haven't got enough this season from either Nunez or Jota, while Luis Diaz is merely a stop-gap.

It all means that Richard Hughes faces his first major task to bring someone to the club. This isn't like Martin Zubimendi last summer - Liverpool must sign someone and if there will be a shortlist of potential options for Hughes to move down.

Alexander Isak is one of the names on the list but Newcastle United are incredibly unlikely to sell at this stage. It means Hugo Ekitike may now be the one for Liverpool, even with reports that Eintracht Frankfurt have bumped the asking price up towards €100m.

And his form in 2025 has him simply begging to be the Reds' record signing.

Hugo Ekitike in 2025

Ekitike has now had 18 starts for Frankfurt in 2025. He's been consistently brilliant across them, too, most recently scoring in games against Heidenheim and Tottenham Hotspur.

In total, there have been 10 goals across those 18 starts, with another four assists. Really solid form since the turn of the year, then.

Ekitike's underlying data for the season shows off exactly what he can bring, though. For instance, he's producing around 3.8 shot-creating actions per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga this season.

That's a fantastic number for a centre-forward - the creativity, after all, is typically left to wingers and no.10s. Harry Kane, for comparison, lags behind him (3.28) despite playing in a far superior team.

But it's how Ekitike creates those chances that excites us. He's helped create 18 through his own shots (and leads the Bundesliga in that regard) while he generates plenty through taking players on, too.

14 this season, in total. The only players beating that are Jamie Gittens, Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz. In other words, the most exciting young players in Germany right now.

Ekitike is in that group, only he's a completely different player to the other three as a tall, imposing striker. And exactly what Liverpool need.

The Reds have never spent €100m on a player and Ekitike would be the first. But there have been few options for that money who have looked as complete as the Frenchman.

He scores goals, gets assists, can lead the line, can take players on, gets his shots off, and is still only 22. A genuine superstar in the making and his form this year is simply begging Liverpool to get this deal done.
