Liverpool have left themselves in a situation where fans have no idea whether Mohamed Salah is playing next season.

His contract is set to expire on June 1, but a new deal could've been agreed long before now which would've saved the supporters from a lot of stress.

Instead, we have just nine games left of the season to play and the Premier League's top goalscorer (27 - clear by six) and top assister (17 - clear by seven) is set to leave the club unless progress is made in the negotiations.

While Salah is 32 years old, this is by far the most impressive season of his career, and clubs across the world will be licking their lips at the opportunity for the Egyptian to play for them.

One of which was Al Hilal, who were deemed one of the favourites to sign him given the vast amount of wealth in the Saudi Pro League and the opportunity to play in a country that is a lot closer to his home nation.

However, reports are now suggesting that his most touted move is no longer on the cards.

Salah to Al Hilal is a non-starter according to reports

While no formal outlet has suggested that Salah will not move to Al Hilal, accounts linked to the club are claiming that the Egyptian will not sign for them this summer.

@ban_hfc writes on X (formally Twitter): "Mohamed Salah will not play for Al Hilal"

As such, if we are to take this claim at face-value, then Liverpool fans might be able to feel a little more positive that Salah's future will remain on Merseyside.

Salah's main other potential destination was Paris Saint-Germain, who have recently brought Khvicha Kharavtskehlia to the French capital from Napoli.

The Georgian joined an extremely impressive attacking unit who outclassed Liverpool in the two clubs' Champions League clash just over a week ago, so it seems fair to suggest that PSG is no longer a viable club who could take Salah.

Of course, the main caveat to the update is that other Saudi clubs will also be looking at signing the winger, so while Al Hilal might not be able or willing to make a deal happen, it is unlikely that the others will shy away from discussions.

Not all of the Saudi clubs are backed by the Public Investment Fund, but most are, which enables extraordinary financial packages to be offered to players, so a move to Middle East could still be on the cards.

And despite the speculation around Salah's future, Liverpool will still be working tirelessly to find a way for him to prolong his stay with Arne Slot and the team - his fate is certainly not sealed quite yet.

So for now, if the rumours are to be believed, then the Reds will have every chance to strike a deal, not least because very few teams are yet to have announced their intentions to talk with Salah.
