Liverpool transfer news: Giorgi Mamardashvili deal takes ANOTHER TWIST

Liverpool have seen another twist in their deal to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili. It’s one that slows things down yet again.

Super Deporte in Spain claims Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili but there's another twist here. No, things are never smooth anymore.

The problem comes from the plan to loan Mamardashvili back to Valencia for a year. This wasn't the initial plan - originally, the goalkeeper would head to Bournemouth for a season.

Now he's to remain where he is, with the official move to Liverpool coming in 2025. However, the Reds want Valencia to pay a significant portion of his wages if they're to have him for the season.

We imagine this was something Bournemouth were willing to do. By not agreeing to that, Valencia are effectively adding a few million on top of the agreed transfer fee but Liverpool disagree with that approach.

The idea to send him to the Cherries appeared to hit a stumbling block with Premier League rules not allowing teams to sign a player and loan him to a different top-flight club in the same window. Loaning him back to Valencia is the compromise - but one that's introduced a new problem.

Outside of this problem, all seems good. A fee has been agreed - though, it's possible another problem arises in how that should be paid. Valencia apparently want almost all of it paid upfront.

Liverpool push to sign Mamardashvili

No, Liverpool haven't signed anyone this summer and it appears that their one signing will actually be for next season. Possibly even beyond that, depending on Alisson's plans.

We just hope it gets done, honestly, because this ends up being an embarrassing summer if Mamardashvili doesn't join. The Leny Yoro 'saga' saw Liverpool miss out on one target, then there was everything with Martin Zubimendi.

Missing out on a third target in negotiations would be awful. Hopefully, common ground is found soon.
