Liverpool BREAK FSG rule with massive Trent Alexander-Arnold decision
Liverpool appear ready to break a major FSG rule with talk of a decision on Trent Alexander-Arnold. But is it the right call?
Trent Alexander-Arnold's contract expires at the end of the season. It's one of the biggest news stories in world football right now as the homegrown superstar is free to leave.

Free to leave for free, even.
Real Madrid certainly want Alexander-Arnold for themselves and are making it incredibly difficult for Liverpool to renew his contract. In fact, they attempted to sign him in January - but the Reds correctly rejected their offer.
And so things are a bit stuck. There's no rush for Alexander-Arnold, who knows full well that both clubs will wait for a response well into the summer.
But it does appear that Liverpool are going to make an attempt to force his hand. And break an FSG rule in the process.
Liverpool make massive Trent Alexander-Arnold offer
The Mirror reports that Liverpool have put £300k per week on the table for Alexander-Arnold. Real Madrid have apparently done the same.
But while you do expect those figures from Los Blancos, you don't from Liverpool. In fact, Mo Salah's current contract is the only time they've paid above around £240k.
And that's for a reason. Liverpool strongly believe you shouldn't overpay on wages and limit them. Almost everyone arrives on a restricted wage that can increase on performance.
It's the primary reason that Liverpool don't sign the world's most reputable players and Salah had to put up a fight to earn his £350k in 2022. He's currently putting up that fight again.
They know this in Spain, too. Liverpool don't like paying anyone massive wages and offering that money to a right-back would be absolutely astonishing, especially if they do end up keeping Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
This offer would break that rule of not overpaying players and completely shift the all-important wage structure at Liverpool. It really can't be undersold - this would be an earth-shattering move from the club.
And that's one of the reasons we're hesitant to entirely believe it. Different sources say different things on this, while it's also possible that such an offer could just be posturing - Liverpool may expect it to be rejected.
We will just have to wait and see on this one. Either way, something massive is coming.
