Liverpool SLAYER could be their first €100m signing

Liverpool could make their first €100m signing - and with a player who produced their most heartbreaking moment of the season.

Liverpool have never really been one of those clubs that spend really big. They broke transfer records back in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s but that was on the back of being the most dominant club English football had ever seen.

Since then? Liverpool's deals for Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker broke positional transfer records but that's been it. Even those came on the back of a mammoth, record-breaking sale in Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.

This year, though, Liverpool should spend at an elite level. They're looking to improve on a title-winning squad, after all, and that's far from simple.

The Reds also limited their spending fairly dramatically in 2024, comfortably making a profit. That lends itself to extra wiggle room this summer and we fully expect Richard Hughes and company to take advantage.

Especially with so many first-team players linked with exits. Ibrahima Konate, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez could all disappear for big fees.

Doing so opens the door to bringing players in for big fees. Maybe even the Reds' first €100m signing?

Liverpool like Desire Doue

Anfield Watch understands that Liverpool hold a long-standing interest in Desire Doue. They actually looked into signing him before he went to Paris Saint-Germain.

And so it will have hurt to see Doue score the winning penalty in the shootout at Anfield last month. He could, in another life, have been in Red.

But maybe that's still a possibility. Teamtalk claims Manchester City are looking into a move for Doue and hold a strong interest in the Frenchman.

Notably, they claim PSG are open to selling if bids start at around €100m. The door is open, in other words, and teams could try and pull Doue away this summer.

It's an opportunity for Liverpool but not an easy one. There's no guarantee that Doue would move, though we imagine he could be swayed by PSG's willingness to sell.

Now, we're not sure if Liverpool see Doue as a potential or necessary signing this summer. The chance is apparently there, though, and there's little doubt that he's got the ability to be a record signing.

This one might come down to priorities at Anfield - if he were a striker, there'd be no doubt about an interest. Instead, we're not 100 per cent certain that Doue will be at the top of the shortlist.

But Liverpool would certainly like to sign the youngster. If they can find a way to make it work, he could well be their first €100m transfer.
