'Loads': Why Liverpool are set for a MOMENTOUS summer of transfer spending
Liverpool are set to do something special this summer in the transfer window. Here's why.
Liverpool have some major decisions to make in 2025. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk could all leave the club, for one.

Any of their departures would necessitate a big rethink with the squad. Alexander-Arnold would be a homegrown departure, as well as the loss of an elite playmaker.
Van Dijk would see a drop in quality in defence - a significant one, too. There's no natural replacement for him and the Reds would need to scramble for a new centre-back. He'd have to be one of the world's best, just to keep the standards relatively similar.
Then there's Salah - a player who is irreplaceable as the world's best right now. Liverpool would need to entirely restructure their forward line if the Egyptian left.
But then, Anfield Watch understands that Liverpool plan to do that anyway. It's an incredible statement to the rest of the Premier League that this is not viewed as the Reds' peak - despite them running away with the title.
Put it all together and you quickly realise that Liverpool can't really avoid a major summer spend. And it looks like they've planned for it.

Liverpool's big summer
Liverpool's financials for 2024 are now out and experts have been trawling through them for information. The big takeaway appears to be that things are comfortable, even with the loss of UEFA Champions League revenue last season.
Noted football finance expert Kieran Maguire is one of those giving his take on Liverpool's finances. He was asked a question by a fan, too, about whether Liverpool are at risk of breaking Financial Fair Play rulings.
Many elite clubs are, after all. Manchester United and Chelsea have serious issues with it right now, while Newcastle United may need to sell Alexander Isak to keep things chugging along.

Maguire made it clear, however, that Liverpool aren't in any danger. "Loads of headroom," he replied.
It sets the stage for Liverpool to do something special this year. They have the flexibility and Arne Slot has a strong mandate to have a squad built for him.
That wasn't the case last summer but this time around? Liverpool will want to invest heavily in their head coach.
The contract situations, coupled with that belief in Slot, points towards a big spend once the season is over. And Liverpool do have the room to make it happen.
