Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha.

The strapping central midfielder has enjoyed a solid rise in his career since leaving Manchester City's academy in 2021. Discarded by Pep Guardiola, Nmecha opted to move on a free transfer to VfL Wolfsburg in the German top flight.

It has proven to be another transfer flop by the Spaniard, who also let Jeremie Frimpong, Brahim Diaz and Morgan Rogers leave the Etihad.

Liverpool could now be set to benefit from that decision further down the line with Nmecha shaping up for a move to the Premier League.

Under contract until 2028, the Germany international joined Dortmund in 2023 from Wolfsburg. Since then he has played 56 times for the Yellow-and-Blacks across defensive and central midfield, including an appearance in last season's Champions League final.

Currently absent due to a knee injury suffered in January, Nmecha is expected back on the pitch soon for BVB's fixtures against Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

With Arne Slot eyeing up midfield reinforcements, we spoke to Bundesliga expert Ronan Murphy from Football Transfers for the full lowdown on Nmecha.

What is Felix Nmecha's best position?

Felix Nmecha has been used in a variety of positions in the middle of the park thanks to his all-round ability in midfield.

He is fast and strong and likes to drive through while in possession, which makes him seem an ideal number 8. Nmecha’s best comparison is probably to Naby Keita, or at least what was expected from the Guinean when he moved from RB Leipzig.

A complete midfielder, he can take the ball from defence and bring it forward, often providing assists or scoring goals himself.

Who could he replace in Liverpool's midfield?

He should be able to adequately replace Ryan Gravenberch in the Liverpool midfield and has similar tenacious qualities to the Dutchman. Nmecha is strong and hard-working which should mean he can adapt quickly to the rigours of the Premier League.

Would you say he's a creator or a destroyer?

He has been more of a destroyer at times for Dortmund but that is perhaps down to the fact that they usually attempt to create through their skilful wingers rather than through the centre.

How much are Liverpool going to have to pay?

Dortmund have been known as a selling club, developing talent and making a profit on them, so would want to make a profit on their €30m outlay. A fee of €40m (£33m) might be acceptable.

What kind of wages would Nmecha command?

Nmecha is reportedly on around €115k a week at Dortmund so it wouldn’t impact Liverpool’s wage structure to sign him.

What went wrong at Man City?

A knee injury stopped any real breakthrough at Man City and thus Pep Guardiola did not get a chance to use him properly. Nmecha was happy to leave on a free transfer and join his brother Lukas at Wolfsburg.

What is the LGBTQIA+ controversy he's been involved in?

When he signed for Dortmund, some fans drew attention to his homophobic social media posts. Nmecha is a devout Christian and has expressed anti-LGBTQ ideas on numerous occasions.

Dortmund reportedly discussed this with him when he signed and advised him to keep these opinions to himself.

Are Dortmund under pressure to sell?

Dortmund’s big plan for the summer is to overhaul the squad and even the backroom. This season has been a disaster so there will likely be wholesale changes on and off the pitch.

Would you recommend Nmecha to join Liverpool?

Staying at Dortmund would probably be best for Nmecha’s development as the club could build around him going forward, but Man Utd could also be a good fit in the Premier League due to the massive hole in their midfield at the moment.
