Federico Chiesa's fate SEALED after latest recruitment admission
Liverpool struck an “opportunistic” deal for Federico Chiesa last summer.
Liverpool Transfer News: Isak update as star looks CONFIRMED to make way
The Italian attack was the Reds’ ONLY permanent signing of the season with Giorgi Mamardashvili not expected to link up with his new teammates until the 2025/26 campaign following his recruitment from Valencia.
EXCLUSIVE: The inside story on Dominik Szoboszlai's move to Liverpool
It’s been a difficult season for the Euro 2020 champion, who has been unable to find consistent form or fitness throughout his first term on Merseyside.
Chiesa, 27, has only played for a total of 25 minutes in the Premier League this season across three appearances, and hasn’t featured at all in the top flight since getting four minutes against Ipswich in January.
He hasn’t played at all since the defeat to Plymouth in the FA Cup fourth round, a damaging loss that demonstrated that Chiesa might not be cut out for life at Anfield.
The former Juventus winger is under contract until 2028 and signed last summer for a sum that could reach only £12 million.
It might prove to be a smart piece of business, even if it doesn’t work out on the field, as there is no shortage of interest in Chiesa back in Serie A.
Does Chiesa have a high resale value?
With plenty of time left on his deal, and a high-quality portfolio of work in the Italian top flight behind him, Chiesa could well fetch a decent price in the transfer market.
Atalanta, Inter Milan, Fiorentina, Napoli, AC Milan and Roma are among the teams thought to be interested in taking Chiesa home.
Recently, Liverpool’s former Lead Recruitment Analyst, Patrick Montgomery, appeared on the Breakdown - an Overlap offshoot - to discuss several topics surrounding scouting and recruitment.

He stated that the recruitment team will take into account a player’s resale value. So even if a deal doesn't work out, there is still a chance of making some money back in the transfer market.
Think back to the likes of Takumi Minamino, who arrived in 2020 for a relatively bargain fee, and was sold on for profit to Monaco in 2022.
This model suggests that there could well be a similar deal for Chiesa at the end of the season, with the Reds set for bumper transfer windfall on an in-demand player.
Chiesa a short-term fix?
“The guys were always very good at thinking outside the box,” he said of his recruitment team at Liverpool. “So it might be a loan or an option or things that. You can still get deals done.
“But you spoke before about players that had resale value. So players that might be short-term fixes as such but then they'd be able to [fetch a high resale value].”
It remains to be seen what Arne Slot and Richard Hughes have got planned for Chiesa. He is a player who was once valued around £50m, but owing to an expiring contract he was available for a lot less than that.
Liverpool took advantage to get a deal done and may well earn themselves a tidy profit if a move back to Italy is completed in summer.
