Liverpool fans overwhelmingly REJECT club's rumoured transfer plan - poll results

Liverpool fans are overwhelmingly against the club’s rumoured transfer plan this summer. It’s a big chance that the Reds are taking.

The Times, among many others, reports that Liverpool will not seek an alternative transfer in the wake of Martin Zubimendi rejecting them. The midfielder initially told the Reds that he was open to leaving Real Sociedad, only to change his mind after the Basque club led a charm offensive.

Liverpool will react to that by doing nothing, essentially. They reportedly felt that Zubimendi was the perfect player for their midfield and don't see an alternative signing that makes sense.

The midfield will, as a result, stay as it is with no incoming players. And you've got to say that's a gamble.

We asked Liverpool fans on Twitter/X what they thought of the mentality of 'the best or nothing'. It was a simple yes or no question - and it's safe to say that fans are overwhelmingly at odds with the club on this one.

Liverpool fans reject club mentality

Just shy of 14,000 fans answered our poll and roughly 82% of them do not agree with Liverpool's mentality here. They want an alternative signing now that Zubimendi is staying put.

And it's very easy to see why. Liverpool lack the kind of player Zubimendi is - someone comfortable on the ball at the base of midfield. Someone who can offer control there, essentially.

The Reds have plenty of good on-ball midfielders but all of them prefer to be more advanced. It'll be a bit of a square peg in a round hole with how Arne Slot wants to play.

This was supposed to be the signing for Slot and one that gets his team ticking the way he wants it. That now won't be happening and he must try to work with what he's got.

It's a risk and one that few fans, it seems, agree with.
