Liverpool Transfer News: Fabrizio Romano updates on Mo Salah future

Fabrizio Romano is 'sure' that Saudi Pro League clubs will try to sign Mohamed Salah again this summer. However, the winger is 'very happy' at Liverpool.

Despite a rare injury absence, the 31-year-old is enjoying a blistering season for Liverpool in 2023/24 and has 21 goals in all competitions.

With his recent strike in the 6-1 win over Sparta Prague, Salah became the first ever Reds star to score 20 or more goals in all competitions for seven campaigns running.

On a personal level, the Egyptian remains in the hunt for another Golden Boot this season and could yet finish the campaign with a treble as the Reds chase down Premier League and Europa League success to add to last month's Carabao Cup.

Salah's Liverpool contract is due to expire in 2025 and there have been reports that incoming sporting director Richard Hughes will look to open talks regarding the player's future.

Salah was, famously, the subject of serious interest from the Saudi Pro League last summer, with a big-money bid from Al Ittihad turned down by Liverpool's hierarchy.

It is widely expected that the Saudis will revive their play for Salah in the coming months at least as long as his future plans remain unconfirmed.

Saudis still keen, Salah focussed

Speaking on JD Football’s YouTube channel, transfer reporter Romano insisted the Saudis aren't going away, but suggested Salah could stay at Liverpool depending on the 'project' presented to him in the post-Jurgen Klopp era.

He said: "In the final week of August, from what I’m hearing, they from Saudi sent the proposal which was around £100m plus add-ons which was around a £150m package for Mo Salah.

"It was massive money and Liverpool decided to say no together with the player to continue together for one more season.

"From Saudi, the interest is still there. They will try again, they want to try again. At the moment there is no discussion with Liverpool or with Mo as they know they are 100% focused on this season.

"So let’s see what happens in the summer in terms of proposal and negotiations. I’m sure Saudi will try again for Mo Salah but I’m also sure that Mo is very happy in Liverpool.

"So I think it’s going to be important to see what Liverpool present to Mo Salah in terms of project."

Anfield Watch has reported that Salah is open to renewing his contract at Liverpool, despite Saudi interest. 

However, what offer the new-look Anfield hierarchy are prepared to make to the 31-year-old who is already the highest-paid player in the club's history remains to be seen.
