Liverpool are still interested in signing Sporting CP's Goncalo Inacio, with the Portuguese side set to sell their star defender this summer.

The Reds have been linked with plenty of centre-backs over the past months, with the current Premier League table toppers expected to reinforce their backline in coming transfer windows.

There were suggestions that Liverpool might bolster their defence in the January market, but the Reds have opted against recruiting any new players this winter.

One name that has been regularly touted with a move to Anfield is Sporting's Goncalo Inacio, the centre-back having thoroughly impressed in Portugal.

According to Record (via Sport Witness), despite Liverpool not making a move for Inacio this January, they are still keen on signing the 22-year-old - who has a £52m release clause in his current deal.

However, they are not alone in their interest, with Newcastle United eyeing the centre-back prodigy as well.

Sporting have been unwilling to negotiate with any club for Inacio and their other stars this winter as they eye only a second league title in the past two decades, with the Lisbon side currently sat top of Liga Portugal over halfway through the season.

Ruben Amorim's side are also still in the Europa League and will face a round of 32 tie with Young Boys as they bid for European glory.

Therefore, keeping players such as Inacio will be crucial to their success, but they are still expected to cash in on the defender this coming summer.

Sporting are reportedly keen to raise funds through lucrative player sales at the end of the season and may even be willing to negotiate his £52m release clause.

Another player who could provide Sporting with some much-needed revenue is Ousmane Diomande - the centre-back partner of Inacio and another Liverpool target.

The 20-year-old Ivorian defender has a £69m release clause in his contract, although the Portuguese side may accept lower offers for the youngster.
