Darwin Nunez is another player whose time at Anfield looks to be coming to a close too. As Anfield Watch exclusively revealed, a £70 million bid was rejected in January and the 25-year-old has repeatedly struggled under Arne Slot.

Liverpool must now look to identify reinforcements for their attack, and they may not have to look any further than Mikel Arteta’s former wonderkid.

Liverpool should look to sign Mika Biereth

The Reds have been linked with a number of strikers since news broke of their summer rebuild plans. Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike are two names that have been repeatedly mentioned, but they aren’t Hughes’ only options.

AS Monaco’s new star, Mika Biereth, has burst onto the scene since singing from Sturm Graz in January – scoring 10 goals in his first seven league matches, including three hattricks.

Biereth would be a good fit at Anfield, and Hughes could try and entice the Arsenal academy graduate to Merseyside in the summer.

"He’s a true No. 9, a poacher in the box,” teammate Maghnes Akilouche told DAZN after Monaco’s most recent win. “We know if there’s a loose ball or a cross, he’s always there to score, so we try to set him up.”

A clinical finisher is something Liverpool lack, and the Reds’ current no. 9 Nunez has developed a reputation for missing easy chances.

Diogo Jota could make way for Biereth

Although Nunez lacks a clinical edge, Jota is well known for his ability to tuck away big chances. The problem with the Portuguese forward is that he struggles to stay fit and cannot be relied upon to come into the team for a long stretch.

Biereth could be the best of both worlds. He has a good injury record and is showing at Monaco that he knows how to finish.

The 22-year-old would thrive at Liverpool and would be the ideal replacement for Jota, who could even go the other way.

The incredible form of Bierteth will almost definitely see Monaco demand a substantially higher fee than the €13 million they paid less than two months ago, and including Jota in a deal could make the finances very achievable for Liverpool.

If Mika Biereth can maintain his red-hot form he will certainly be on Liverpool’s radar this summer, and it looks like he could be Arne Slot’s perfect Diogo Jota replacement.
