Liverpool transfer news: Decision MADE on future of 21-year-old amid growing interest

Liverpool want to sell 21-year-old academy defender Owen Beck this summer with Celtic keen on the youngster's signature, according to one journalist.

Beck is the great-nephew of Liverpool's all-time top goalscorer Ian Rush and has been with the Reds since 2015. He signed his first professional contract five years later but has managed just three senior appearances for the club.

The Welsh under-21 international struggled during loan spells to Portuguese club Famalicao and Bolton Wanderers, but hit his stride after joining Scottish side Dundee at the beginning of the 2023/24 season.

Beck was briefly recalled by Jurgen Klopp in January 2024 after a left-back injury crisis but returned to Dundee on loan for the second half of last season.

However, it appears that Beck still has his admirers in Scotland.

LIVERPOOL OPEN TO OWEN BECK SALE

According to journalist Lewis Steele, Celtic are keen on signing Beck and came close to recruiting the youngster last January.

They have retained their interest in the academy starlet but Liverpool are reportedly wanting to sanction a sale as opposed to a loan deal for Beck this summer.

This may rule the Scottish champions out of contention given they reportedly only want temporary cover at left-back.

There are still likely to be a number of clubs interested in Beck this summer given his strong performances with Dundee last season, although Liverpool are unlikely to make huge profit on the defender.

Beck made 28 appearances for a Dundee side that finished sixth in the Scottish Premiership, registering two goals and a further four assists from left-back.

Liverpool have already let one of their other young full-backs from the academy leave this summer, with Adam Lewis joining Morecambe on a free transfer.

However, the Reds are in the process of recruiting several new players to join the youth setup, with Rio Ngumoha and Alvin Ayman closing in on moves from Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively.
