Liverpool have taken a big step towards a deal for Dean Huijsen. The Reds hope to sign the centre-back.

Liverpool are in the race to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth this summer. There's no question about that - it's just whether they land him or not.

They're far from the only team in this race, after all. Huijsen has been one of the standout defenders in the Premier League this season and doing so at 19/20 will naturally draw interest.

Though, Liverpool have had Huijsen in their sights for some time. Reports in Italy linked them pretty consistently with the centre-back last season, before he made the move to Bournemouth.

But if the Reds weren't quite sure enough to sign Huijsen in 2024, there's no doubt anymore. His debut Premier League campaign made sure of that and now he looks like one of the best signings possible at centre-back.

And Liverpool are in the market for one of those. There are significant doubts over the futures of Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah - a replacement feels like a necessity.

Especially as Konate's future isn't even really in Liverpool's hands. He enters the final year of his contract this summer and Anfield Watch understands Paris Saint-Germain are eager to sign him.

That all explains Liverpool's recent move, then.

Liverpool move forward on Dean Huijsen

Relovo claims that Huijsen will almost certainly move to a Premier League club this summer. No one outside of the English top flight is in a solid position to strike a deal with Bournemouth.

Real Madrid, the most likely suitors outside of England, aren't in position to bid. That simply rules them out and paves the way for a Premier League side.

Four of them have let Bournemouth know that they're willing to pay the £50m release clause. Liverpool are one of them - a giant step forward for any deal.

Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have all done the same. We're sure every fan had the same reaction there: Liverpool look like overwhelming favourites up against three massively underperforming clubs.

It's expected that any move for Huijsen will happen quickly, too. Both Bournemouth and the player himself are eager to sort things early this summer - so we could only be a few weeks away from finding out of he's off to Liverpool.

Right now, though, all signs point to Anfield.
