Liverpool Transfer News: Star would be MAD to accept 7-year contract
Liverpool are in the market for one of the Premier League's most in-demand stars. But news of a seven-year contract complicates things.
Liverpool will try to sign a centre-back this summer. Or at least, that's potentially the plan.

The Reds have three players with uncertain futures in the position. Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah are both on the absolute fringes of the first team, immediately making them potential exits this summer.
But it's Ibrahima Konate who's the most interesting case. He enters the final year of his contract this summer and is currently locked in talks with Liverpool.
Whether he signs a new deal or not is up in the air, however. Anfield Watch understands there's fairly intense interest from Paris Saint-Germain in the player from Paris.
It may well be that the Reds opt to sell Konate rather than pay him over the odds in any new contract. It promises to be one of the biggest stories of the summer at Anfield.
Especially as it would necessitate an arrival and a fairly high-profile one. Dean Huijsen appears to be the pick, with Liverpool having let Bournemouth know that they'll pay his release clause.
There's now a problem there, though. And it's one that really shouldn't be.

Chelsea's Dean Huijsen offer
The Independent claims that Chelsea now lead the race for Huijsen. There's little offered as an explanation why, though.
In fact, the only real clue for why Chelsea could lead that race is the mention of a seven-year contract offer. But should that actually be tempting for Huijsen?
It's understandable that the long-term offers from Chelsea, an increasingly common tactic in recent years, could tempt players playing in smaller leagues. Here's guaranteed money over seven years - life-changing.
Huijsen, though, has nothing to prove and nothing to fear. He's already established himself as a Premier League centre-back at 20 and has some of the world's biggest clubs looking to sign him as a starting player.
Even if his next move is a bad one, he'd still have enough reputation in the bank to secure a major transfer somewhere else. That's the nature of reaching the top at 20.
So we don't see any need to sign a seven-year contract as Huijsen would almost certainly benefit more from having extra flexibility to negotiate down the line. Especially as the team offering that deal is Chelsea.
Their project under the current ownership has not been a success. At all. They've spent wild amounts of money and then found dubious ways of meeting Premier League PSR.
That's included selling a hotel to themselves and selling their women's team to themselves. It sounds dodgy, let's be honest, and they're currently under investigation.
The point there is that we're not sure this is a project you want to lock yourself into long-term. They're a club that move on from players at a rapid pace and with no success to show for it.
There are doubts around the legality of their finances, too. And again, they've brought themselves into this situation without anything to show for it.
They might clinch a Champions League spot this season but even that is questionable. It's just not a club in a state to be dishing out seven-year contracts to elite players.

Huijsen has his pick of top clubs right now. He has negotiating power. Why he'd use that to secure a seven-year contract at a club with an uncertain future is absolutely beyond us.
