The Athletic’s David Ornstein has dropped an update on Liverpool’s transfer business and it has every fan excited. Things might finally start to happen.

Liverpool fans have waited and waited and waited for something to happen in the transfer window. Well, the wait might finally be over this week.

The Reds are the only Premier League side who haven't signed any players - one of remarkably few in Europe. Not only that, but they haven't sold anyone either. The only squad changes this summer have come from a small selection of players with expired contracts.

There have been reasons for that, of course. A new head coach in Arne Slot meant Liverpool needed to wait to see what they actually needed. It was no use going out and signing a centre-back only to learn that Slot loves his current options and doesn't need or want anyone new.

A new sporting director in Richard Hughes slowed things down further as he got to grips with the job. Then there were three international tournaments this summer as the Euros, Copa America and Olympics took players away from the table.

But this could be the week that things kick into gear.

David Ornstein's Liverpool update

It was always expected that Liverpool would sell some players this week. Or at the very least, they'd start negotiating with teams for their talents.

But it appears they might actually have found the right player to sign, too. David Ornstein writes for The Athletic that the Reds have been looking for a new holding midfielder and that they "have now identified a target in that position".

Now, there are no names here but Ornstein goes on to say that "it is worth keeping an eye on that situation this week" and that the player in question is from outside the Premier League.

There's also talk that Liverpool could be looking at a new left-back and you can read more on that here. Altogether, it looks like we might finally see some business getting done this week.

Hopefully, it was worth the wait.
