Later in the window Al Nassr made an attempt to sign the Uruguay striker but again Liverpool were not convinced to sell. It was believed that a lack of time to get a replacement was the primary reason for Richard Hughes to knock back the bid.
But Darwin has got European suitors too.
Anfield Watch also brought you the news that AC Milan liked the frontman but were for one reason or another unable to sign him over the winter.
Pulisic tipped to replace Salah
Nonetheless, Darwin could well be used as a trump card for the Reds in order to sign a candidate from Milan who can REPLACE Mohamed Salah.
Christian Pulisic has been a revelation for the Rossoneri since signing from Chelsea in 2023. The USMNT attacker has scored 27 goals and added 20 assists in just 81 games for Sergio Conceicao’s side and has taken his game to new heights this season.
Pulisic has scored 12 goals and made nine assists in 31 games in all competitions - including a goal against the Reds in the Champions League.
He hasn’t quite recaptured his early season form since returning from a calf injury around the turn of the year but Pulisic is still one of the most important players at the club as his two assists against Empoli in Serie A last week proved.
Calciomercato is now reporting that Milan bosses are planning a two-year contract for Pulisic, whose current terms expire in 2027.
A new deal until 2029 would earn the forward around €5 million per year and Calciomercato has also warned that Liverpool are interested in adding him to their squad.
According to Football Transfers' Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) Pulisic is worth €60m (£50m) in the transfer market and Nunez could certainly be used as bait in order to reduce the cost.

Pulisic was linked with Liverpool earlier this season as a potential Salah replacement and - like the Egyptian - deserves a second chance in the Premier League after a difficult spell at Chelsea following a successful revival in Italy.
