Darwin Nunez opens talks over Liverpool ESCAPE
Liverpool have got transfer doubts around several of their first-team stars.
Mohamed Salah is out of contract in summer 2025 and the club have so far been unable to come to an agreement over a new deal.

The same goes for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, with all three scheduled to depart Anfield in a matter of months. But aside from the contract trio, there are several stars who have seen their Liverpool futures come under scrutiny this season.
Wataru Endo for example has been consistently linked with the exit door while Joe Gomez came close to leaving the club last summer. Up front it’s a similar tale with Luis Diaz’s own contract situation potentially leading to the Reds’ considering a sale.
And another Liverpool forward who has had to endure several recent transfer rumours is Darwin Nunez. The 25-year-old Uruguayan signed from Benfica in 2022 for a sum that could reach £85 million but he has been unable to live up to that outlay consistently.
Darwin sounds out Barca interest
Reports of a potential departure have intensified this January with AC Milan coming to the table ahead of a potential summer bid. Anfield Watch also revealed that Saudi Pro League clubs have now made the South American a prime target for 2025.
Another escape route could have also opened up in the shape of Barcelona, who will soon be seeking a replacement for Robert Lewandowski. The Pole is about to turn 37 and Barca require a long-term successor to their No.9.
According to a report in El Nacional, sporting director Deco sees Darwin as the ideal candidate. While a financial deal would currently appear to be beyond the capabilities of the hard-up Catalans, the newspaper assures that the feasibility of the deal is being studied at Camp Nou.
Moreover it’s also reported that Darwin would LOVE a move to Catalonia and that his representatives have already sounded out Barcelona about bringing his Liverpool days to an end.
“The forward's agent has started contacts with several European clubs, including Barça, who are looking for a smooth transition to cover Lewandowski 's position,” the report states.
Under contract until 2028, it would take a sizeable operation to get Darwin out of Anfield but if the reports of the last few weeks are anything to go by, it appears that he will soon be on the move.
