As exclusively revealed by Anfield Watch, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez look likely to be some of the first casualties as Slot and Richard Hughes attempt to rebuild the playing squad, and Diogo Jota could join them too.

Although nothing has been agreed, the next destination for one of these departing players may have just been revealed.

AC Milan preparing €60 million bid

According to a report by Fichajes, AC Milan have identified Nunez as a key target for the summer window and are preparing a €60 million bid to test Liverpool’s resolve.

Nunez was the subject of a £70 million bid made by Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal in the January window, as was revealed by Anfield Watch.

The club rejected the bid however and were holding out for a fee closer to the £85 million mark.

A deal may be easier to reach in the summer, but the €60 million bid being prepared by the Rossoneri might not be enough for the Reds to split with their Uruguayan no.9.

The report by Fichajes also states that Rafael Leao could depart the San Siro this summer, and any funds generated by such a sale could go towards signing Nunez as his replacement.

Nunez’s place at Liverpool

Although the club shelled out a huge fee for the then 22-year-old in 2022, Nunez failed to lock down a place in the starting XI under Jurgen Klopp and has continued to struggle under Slot.

The 25-year-old has featured fairly regularly under the Dutchman but has only scored six times in 32 appearances, not the numbers expected from one of Europe’s most expensive forwards.

Liverpool are enjoying a successful season despite Darwin’s shortcomings, sitting six points clear at the top of the Premier League with a game in hand, topping the Champions League ‘league phase’ and into the final of the Carabao Cup.

This early-season success could suggest that replacing Nunez shouldn’t be a priority for Liverpool’s recruitment team but if a summer rebuild of the front-line does take place, then Nunez can definitely be upgraded upon, and AC Milan could be his next destination.
