And Darwin, 25, hasn’t set the world alight under Arne Slot this term - scoring only five league goals and falling out of the starting picture of late.

The Uruguayan has only managed one league start in 2025 and now looks destined to be sold in the off-season. If Liverpool can recoup a major part of the £85 million they paid for Nunez to Benfica back in 2022, then it’s likely we will see him on his way.

Saudi sides such as Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr are known to be keen with their efforts to sign the forward in winter falling short of Liverpool’s asking price.

They will be back and their interest could also be matched by Atletico Madrid with Diego Simeone said to be keen to construct his attack around the mercurial frontman.

If and when Nunez departs then Liverpool will require a new striker - one capable of leading the line in the Premier League as well as the Champions League. He will have to be someone with proven class and quality in front of goal.

Liverpool confirmed fans of Osimhen

Happily for the Reds, a confirmed transfer target WILL be available this summer in the shape of Victor Osimhen.

The 26-year-old forward fits the bill; he has scored 22 goals in 26 Turkish Super Lig matches for Galatasaray so far this season on loan from Napoli.

Having failed to shift Osimhen for their £100m asking price last summer, the Italians instead opted to offload him to Gala for a year. He has continued to do the business and now his original contract with Napoli has only a year left to run.

It’s been reported that the Serie A league leaders would now settle for £50m to £60m to part ways with the Nigerian but there could be one considerable drawback.

That comes in the size of Osimhen’s pay packet with the African star demanding £300,000 per week from any potential new employers.

Victor Osimhen wants £300k per week

That’s according to a new report in GIVEMESPORT, which claims that the price of a deal has now ruled Manchester United out of the running.

“His wage demands are understood to be around £300,000-per-week, which is beyond what they are prepared to offer,” a report reads.

To put that into context, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are comfortably the club’s top earners - on a reputed £400k per week each.

Osimhen’s wage demands would place him only just behind those two players - multiple Premier League titlists and Champions League winners to boot.

If Liverpool managed to offload both Darwin and Federico Chiesa then Osimhen would hoover up both their wages and still need more.

Given the Reds are among the world’s highest-paying football teams it’s probably a salary demand they cannot afford to satisfy - especially after shelling out on Salah and Van Dijk’s contract renewals.

Osimhen would no doubt be an improvement on Darwin but at the prices being quoted he is a little rich for Liverpool’s tastes.
