Long-term Liverpool transfer target SUDDENLY available for free
Long-term Liverpool transfer target Dani Olmo could be suddenly and unexpectedly available for FREE next week.
The Spain Euro 2024 winner only joined Barcelona last summer for a €55 million fee after leaving RB Leipzig but the operation to register the 26-year-old in Barca’s squad for the 2024/25 season was complex from the beginning.

Barca took advantage of Andreas Christensen’s injury earlier this year to allocate 80 percent of the Dane’s salary to Olmo’s contract as an emergency measure, using Article 77 of LaLiga's Club Budget Preparation Rules in the case of a long-term injury.
But that registration expires on December 31, after which point Olmo’s contract must be standardised due to Christensen becoming available again.
Barca’s attempts to register Olmo for the second half of the season have been denied. Judge Ignacio Fernandez de Senespleda, head of Barcelona’s Commerical Court 10, decided against the injuction which would allow Olmo to play.
However, Barca have filed ANOTHER lawsuit, with a new hearing to be heard on Monday December 30, in an effort to get Olmo registered.
Olmo registration denied
The club will argue that registration rules are invalid because they are regulated by an incompetent organisation in the LaLiga Delegate Commission.
They believe the rules have been changed. When Marc-Andre Ter Stegen was injured earlier this season, the club claim they were told they could use 80 percent of the German goalkeeper’s salary to adjust the rest of the squad’s salaries.
With Wojciech Szezesny brought into the club on a free transfer, Barca were hoping that the remainder of Ter Stegen’s salary could be used on Olmo for the second half of the season. However, it’s been reported by Mundo Deportivo that LaLiga will not let that happen.
Barca and LaLiga presented their arguments last Monday at the Barcelona City of Justice following the lawsuit filed by the club. Time is now against the club, with the deadline for Olmo’s registration running out on December 31.
Premier League on alert for Olmo
If not then Olmo will be available for FREE in the January transfer window.
That spells disaster for Barcelona, who are still on the hook for his transfer fee and it opens the door to potential Premier League suitors.
The latest reports link Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal with Olmo with the Daily Mail claiming that the player’s agent Andy Bara was at Man City’s clash against Everton on Boxing Day.
Whether Liverpool opt to get involved at this stage is unknown but a prime player of Olmo’s calibre - available for free - could be too good to turn down.
