Liverpool transfer news: Reds to miss out as Summerville contacted by PSG
Paris Saint-Germain have made contact with the entourage of one-time Liverpool target Crysencio Summerville and now appear in pole position to land the Leeds winger.
Summerville, 22, was named the Championship player of the year having scored 19 goals in the second tier as the Whites finished inside the playoff places and has been heavily tipped for a summer exit.
The Feyenoord-trained attacking talent is under contract at Elland Road until 2026, having been signed in 2020 for a bargain fee of around £1 million.
Leeds are set to bank a lot more than that this transfer window in the event that his departure is sanctioned with a group of clubs vying for The Netherlands’ under-21 international’s signature.
Brighton were thought to be close to landing Summerville but De Telegraaf reports that the Seagulls’ reluctance to add a buyout clause to the winger’s contract ultimately scuppered a deal.
Fulham are also reported to be keen but their efforts would pose no threat to either Liverpool or Chelsea should they firm up their interest with a bid.
Way paved for PSG bid
Liverpool have enquired about signing Summerville, as have Premier League rivals Chelsea, but it appears both clubs will be instead moving on to other attacking targets.
That paves the way for PSG to land the in-demand forward with Luis Enrique’s side seeking to overhaul their striking options this summer.
Kylian Mbappe has left the club while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Marcus Rashford have also been mentioned as potential arrivals.
Liverpool attacking options
Liverpool could well be in the market for an attacker this summer and a player like Summerville would fit the bill. He scores and creates chances and is versatile enough to play left wing, right wing and has even appeared up front at times.
There is long-term uncertainty about Mohamed Salah’s future with his contract expiring in 2025 while Luis Diaz has been subject of transfer interest from Barcelona and PSG.
Other players linked with a potential arrival are Anthony Gordon, Johan Bakayoko, Max Beier, Dario Osorio, Bryan Mbeumo and Mohammed Kudus.
