Liverpool given HUGE contract boost as Real Madrid move on
Real Madrid have seemingly moved on from their primary Liverpool target as they are now courting an Arsenal star instead.
The Spanish giants have been the thorn in the Reds' side for decades. Real Madrid have prized away Steve McManaman in his prime.

They then proceeded to take Michael Owen away from Anfield before also bringing Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa to the club.
This year they are looking to do the same with Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract is expiring at the end of the season and who is yet to commit to a new deal at Anfield.
It would be devastating to lose the right-back, who has been at the club since U9 level and who has won everything possible to win at Anfield.

But that remains a possibility. Even worse, Liverpool could have faced a double Real Madrid blow this summer. But at least that doesn't look like it will happen.
Why Real Madrid have moved on from Ibrahima Konate
Recent reports have also linked Ibrahima Konate with a move to Real Madrid. Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that he was being eyed up by Paris Saint Germain but Real is another possible destination for the Frenchman.
Konate's contract currently expires in the summer of 2026 and Liverpool have been looking to tie him down to a new deal but with Real Madrid and PSG sniffing about understandably that is not going to be easy.
Liverpool don't want to be in the same situation next summer with Real Madrid taking one of the club's best players again in Konate.
Thankfully, that seems like it will not happen.
According to Relevo Real Madrid are instead targeting Konate's teammate, William Saliba.
The Arsenal defender has emerged as a top candidate for Madrid and it seems like they are very keen on signing him and fortifying their defensive options.
Saliba has been a brilliant defender in the Premier League. He's very much a key part of Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side so this is something that Liverpool would definitely celebrate.
Not only will Konate no longer be at threat of being signed by Real Madrid thus giving the Reds a major contract boost but at the same time this transfer would also significantly weaken Arsenal.
Arsenal will be reluctant to sell Saliba but he will have only two years left on his deal in the summer and Real Madrid are experts at exploiting such situations.

Thankfully, at least in the case of Konate, Liverpool can sigh a breath of relief. For now.
