Richard Hughes hasn't conducted a lot of deals so far since taking the helms at Anfield last summer. In fact, he's only two signings to date have been Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Since Hughes has been in charge, Liverpool have also spent the least amount of money in the Premier League.

But there is hope that this will change in the summer. Liverpool are planning for a big window ahead and one that could transform the shape of Arne Slot's current squad while also rebuilding the future foundations of the Reds.

And there's one player Liverpool are keeping their eye on, who very much represents the latter, and who has been catching the eye in La Liga while drawing comparisons to Cody Gakpo.

Liverpool tracking potential Cody Gakpo regen Jesus Rodriguez

According to El Des Marque, Liverpool's scouts were in attendance to watch Real Betis take on Athletic Bilbao last weekend. The report claims the player on Liverpool's radar was Jesus Rodriguez.

He is a 19-year-old phenomenon who has recently broken into the Betis first team and who has stood out for his tall gait. Standing at 1.87 metres, Rodriguez is rapid and thrives at taking on his opponents.

He averages an impressive 8.71 dribbles per 90 minutes for Real Betis' first team this season and succeeds in 56.5% of his attempts as per Wyscout.

With his tall stature and his ability to beat players and cut onto his right foot, there are shades of Cody Gakpo about him in the way he plays.

Rodriguez's movements on the pitch are very similar. He likes to roam in the same channels and cut onto his right foot, either to cross or shoot.

The directness, speed and one vs one ability are also all reminiscent of Gakpo as well. So, it would not be a surprise if Liverpool are indeed keeping their eye on the player.

He's still very raw having started just four La Liga games in his entire career, and scoring just one goal. But there is something about him and as the report mentions, the region of Spain where Real Betis are from, is a region where Liverpool have historically often scouted young players.
