Former Liverpool target Federico Chiesa could be available for as little as €20 million (£17.1 million) this summer.

La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Chiesa’s time at Juventus will end this summer following his exclusion from a friendly match against Brest on Saturday.

Liverpool have been previously linked with a move for the 26-year-old Italian and the time may have finally come for Richard Hughes to make his move.

Why should Liverpool be interested?

Chiesa made 37 appearances for Juventus during their last campaign and produced 13 goals and assists in that time.

Liverpool are believed to be in the market for a wide forward and Chiesa could be the man to fill that role.

Although the Euro 2020 winner has faced injury problems previously, missing almost all of 2022 after a cruciate ligament tear, he missed only 11 games injured last season.

Chiesa would more than likely not be expected to start the majority of Liverpool’s matches with Mohamed Salah dominating the right-wing position for Liverpool.

However, Chiesa has been deployed across the front line throughout his career and can also play the number 10 position.

It is this versatility that could tempt Arne Slot and Richard Hughes into making a move for the Italian.

How does he compare to Liverpool’s current options?

For the last seven years Mohamed Salah has undeniably been Liverpool’s first option on the right side of the attack, but the Egyptian King only has a year left on his contract and turned 32 in June.

Ben Doak, who Jürgen Klopp hailed as a ‘special’ talent, is also available on the right for Liverpool but, at only 18, many Liverpool fans feel he should be loaned out for a season to get some first-team experience under his belt.

Chiesa is only one year older than Salah was when he signed for Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017 and his cut-price fee could be exactly the market opportunity that Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes have been waiting for.

Salah produced 56 goals and assists in 83 games for AS Roma and although Chiesa’s 55 G/A in 131 games for Juventus is not quite as impressive Chiesa could be the perfect back-up for Slot to develop in his first season at Liverpool.
