The Portugal Under-21 international is enjoying a breakout season in Lisbon and was also a target for Manchester United and his former Sporting coach in Ruben Amorim.
However it appears Chelsea have taken everyone by surprise in completing the permanent signing of the left-footer. Quenda will move to Stamford Bridge in 2026 on a seven-year contract, spending next season on loan in Portugal with Sporting.
Liverpool MISS OUT on Quenda
The overall fee is believed to be in the region of €45 million to €50m, according to reliable transfer journalist David Ornstein of the Athletic.
The wide man had played wing-back for Amorim before being restored to a winger role under current head coach Rui Borges. He is capable of playing either side of the attack, excelling on the right when he can cut inside on his fearsome left foot.
Liverpool were first linked towards the end of the winter transfer window when it emerged that the Reds planned to rival Man Utd and Manchester City for his signature.
But Chelsea have moved first and moved decisively, meaning the Reds will have to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.
Salah looks set to leave the Premier League leaders on a free transfer with Al Hilal optimistic of landing the Egyptian King. Luis Diaz could be sacrificed with his contract ticking down and no agreement close over a new deal.
