Manager CONVINCED table-topping talisman will JOIN Liverpool

Given the amount of transfer rumours around Liverpool right now, you’d think the team were going through a period of mass transition, not knowing who they are and trying to become something else.

You wouldn’t think they were the best team in the entire world, top of both the Premier League and Champions League, firing on all cylinders.

But the nature of football realistically means that Liverpool could have two new full-backs, a new centre-back, a new defensive midfielder and two new attackers come the start of next season.

Something that Arne Slot seems to be happy enough with, however, is the attacking midfield position.

Dominik Szoboszlai started the season in the position but was eventually replaced by Curtis Jones.

Yet Szoboszlai’s performances of late seem to have won him the job back, with his best-ever performance in a Liverpool shirt seeing him net a goal and an assist in a dominant performance as Liverpool routed Tottenham 6-3 this past weekend.

But a new report tips a potential elite-level replacement at the position.

Are Liverpool set to sign Atalanta's talisman?

Paolo Condo of Repubblica has reported that Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini is convinced their attacking midfielder Charles De Ketalaere will be playing for Liverpool within the next two years.

The report alleges Gasperini thinks De Ketalaere will be headed to Anfield, or to Real Madrid, or a big club in England or Spain in that time.

The Belgian’s current contract with Atalanta expires in 2027 and it is easy to see why his coach thinks that.

He has long been touted as one of the next big things in European football, and is enjoying his best season yet with 19 goal involvements in all competitions as Atalanta sit top of Serie A.

De Ketalaere can also operate in the centre-forward position and has done almost as much as he has in attacking midfield for the Italian side this season.

We know Arne Slot values versatility in his players, as seen with the deployment of Luis Diaz in the central role this season, and that will surely only endear him more to the head coach.
