The nightmare continues for one Liverpool player as his replacement is officially announced. Calvin Ramsay is having a shocking time.

It's been very difficult for Calvin Ramsay since he arrived at Liverpool in 2022. He was supposed to be the successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold but injuries prevented him from ever getting a foothold at Anfield in that debut campaign.

And so a loan beckoned in the summer of 2023. Ramsay went to Preston North End but played just 132 minutes in the Championship before they sent him back to Liverpool in January.

Liverpool tried a different loan - this time, Ramsay went to League One Bolton Wanderers. However, things weren't much better as the Scot would play just 69 minutes across a meagre two appearances.

Yet again, the Reds attempted to find a loan for Ramsay this season. He's been at Wigan Athletic since the summer. Though, it's again been a nightmare - the 21-year-old has started just three League One fixtures and hasn't been in the matchday squad for the last nine.

And now it appears his time is up.

Calvin Ramsay replaced

Wigan announced the permanent signing of Josh Robinson from Arsenal on New Year's Day. He's signed a deal for the next three-and-a-half years.

And given Robinson is a right-back, this signals the end of Ramsay's chances of getting back in the Latics' team. Every expectation is that he'll now return to Liverpool and go again.

There is essentially zero chance of Ramsay getting football in Arne Slot's team, though. He's far down the pecking order and if you're struggling for minutes in League One, you're not getting them at the top of the Premier League.

In theory, anyway. Both Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips have proven you can't always assume that.

But this still represents a shocking downfall for Ramsay. He was considered to be the best young player in Scotland back when Liverpool signed him - he won the Scottish Football Writers' Award for being so.

Now, though, Ramsay desperately needs the right club to get his career back on track. He's never fully recovered from those initial injuries and it's imperative that Liverpool find somewhere he can finally do that.
