What Liverpool MUST do before January transfer deadline
With just over two weeks until the January transfer window slams shut, many supporters feel that there is still business to be done in Liverpool.
After only completing one signing in Arne Slot’s first transfer window, Federico Chiesa, it has been another quiet two weeks in the transfer market for the Reds.

Although Liverpool currently sit top of both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, there are still some obvious ways that Richard Hughes could improve Slot’s squad.
Here we take a look at which areas of the squad Hughes and Michael Edwards should be prioritising ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday 3 February.
Left-back
One of the most contentious positions in Liverpool’s squad right now is left-back.
Andrew Robertson has been an excellent servant to the club for the past eight years but looks as though he may be starting to slow down.
Kostas Tsimikas is his competition but has also struggled to nail down a place in the team despite a drop off in Robertson’s form.
Robertson and Tsimikas are 30 and 28-years-old respectively and Liverpool have been linked with a number of options to provide added depth in the position, including Milos Kerkez and Alphonso Davies.
An upgrade in the left-back department could be exactly what the Reds need to rediscover the excellent defensive form they enjoyed at the start of the campaign.
Centre Forward
When trying to establish Liverpool’s strongest XI the other highly debatable point is who starts up top.
Mohamed Salah is nailed on as the starter at right-wing and Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo have both shown their prowess on the left this season, but there is no obvious option for Slot in the middle.
Diogo Jota continues to suffer with injury and looks likely to miss Saturday’s visit to Brentford.
The 28-year-old has struggled to stay fit since he arrived at Anfield and simply isn’t a reliable option up front, even if he can produce some brilliant goals when he’s on the pitch.
Darwin Nunez is the other obvious candidate for the role, but he has been heavily criticized this season for his decision making, and he has struggled to impact games when he has been relied upon.
This leaves the door open for a new forward to be signed, one that could lock down the starting position for the rest of the season and provide some perhaps needed consistency to Slot’s front-line.
Holding midfield cover
Ryan Gravenberch has defied the expectations of everyone by maturing into one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League this season.
The depth behind Gravenberch in this position is questionable, however.
Wataru Endo and Tyler Morton can both provide cover for Gravenberch when needed, but neither have been able to consistently earn minutes in the side since Slot’s arrival and there are question marks over their futures.
An injury to Gravenberch would likely spell disaster.
There are still just over two weeks remaining in the transfer window, which is more than enough time for one or more deals to be completed.
Liverpool are no strangers to January additions, with Diaz, Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk all arriving in the winter window, but it remains to be seen whether Slot will be provided any reinforcements in his first title charge with Liverpool.
