Manager confirms Liverpool winger is staying
Liverpool still have several transfer questions to answer as the January window enters its closing stages.
While incomings are unlikely, there are plenty of unresolved issues around some of the Reds’ squad members.

Darwin Nunez and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the subject of intense speculation. The Uruguayan frontman is wanted by his former Benfica manager Jorge Jesus at Al Hilal while Alexander-Arnold is under scrutiny by Real Madrid.
Some of Liverpool’s fringe and youth stars are also in demand. Jayden Danns is wanted for a loan spell by a clutch of Championship teams and Tyler Morton could yet be targetted for a loan move before the end of the window.
Meanwhile, it is expected that Kaide Gordon will take up a second loan of the season having had his original spell at Norwich curtailed.
Doak linked with move
One Liverpool player who was heavily linked with a move away during the opening stages of the window was Ben Doak.
The 19-year-old Scot has been on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship this season with the level of his performances alerting the likes of Crystal Palace and Ipswich.
It was reported that Liverpool would seek around £30 million for the winger but initial approaches fell well short of that.
All the while, Boro were concerned that the Reds would use a recall clause in Doak’s loan, meaning they would not have the wideman for the rest of the season.
But Boro manager Michael Carrick has now revealed that Doak’s recall clause has expired, meaning that he is currently set to stay at the Riverside for the rest of the campaign.
Doak deadline has passed
“The deadline has passed for Ben,” he told Teesside Live following Boro’s 2-0 win versus West Brom on Tuesday. “I said all along I was calm! Obviously we’re really happy he’s here, but genuinely, it hasn’t been a big thing for us.
“He showed again tonight how dangerous he is and then scored a terrific goal. It’s something he can do a little bit more, come inside onto his left foot, because it’s something he’s good at as well. I’m delighted with it.
“He’s got that weapon and unique threat. The way he plays the game, everyone has their own strengths, but the way Ben plays the game, he’s always in the game and always a threat.
“We’re obviously happy he’ll be staying here. He’s a big role and he’ll continue to do that for the time that he’s here.”
Doak scored a terrific goal in the encounter - as referenced by Carrick - cutting inside from the right wing and finding the far corner with his left foot.
Liverpool fans concerned about the loss of Mohamed Salah might well be enthused by what they’ve seen from the Scotland international.
