The BIG reveal: What is needed to sign Martin Zubimendi
The summer window feels like a lifetime ago, but a transfer saga is still rumbling on with Liverpool’s top target in the centre.
Liverpool Transfer Latest: Reds ready offer as star says he's STAYING
The story of the summer was Liverpool’s very public pursuit of Martin Zubimendi, who was the club’s top target, before the Spaniard decided he was not ready to leave the club he has spent his whole career at – Real Sociedad.

When the Reds failed to land Zubimendi they didn’t move on to an alternative target and instead opted to trust Ryan Gravenberch at the base of the midfield, a decision which appears to have paid off.
Despite that, Liverpool are still in need of midfield reinforcements, and now it’s clear what Zubimendi wants to make a move happen.
Zubimendi’s demands revealed
In a blow to Liverpool, Football Transfers are reporting that Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Zubimendi and have revealed his demands to make a move away from San Sebastian.
The 26-year-old is believed to have a release clause of around £50 million in his contract, and Arsenal have reportedly agreed a four-year deal with the players representatives that would see his current wage doubled.
There is however still a chance the Spaniard doesn’t make the move to London as he is seeking further assurances before committing his future.

According to Football Transfers: “Zubimendi’s hesitation revolves around factors such as lifestyle adjustments, family relocation, and settling into life in England.”
These reservations sound strikingly similar to the reasons Zubimendi gave for turning down a move to Anfield last summer, despite a deal being close.
What next for Zubimendi?
When he turned down Liverpool Zubimendi was promised a new contract by Real Sociedad, but this is yet to materialise, and the Spanish side have struggled this campaign – currently sitting 11th in La Liga.
Zubimendi has doubled down that he doesn’t regret his decision to stay last summer, but it looks as though a move away is on the cards this summer.
Liverpool are still in need of midfield reinforcements, with the futures of Harvey Elliott, Tyler Morton and Wataru Endo uncertain, and the Merseyside club could feasibly try and hijack Arsenal’s move for Zubimendi.
Now that Liverpool know the assurances the 26-year-old wants, they could try and convince him to make the move to Merseyside once again as they'd be able to match the contract on the table from Arsenal.

It looks as though Zubimendi is destined to play in the Premier League, but the Anfield faithful will hope Liverpool make another effort for the Spaniard and he doesn’t end up with title rivals Arsenal.
