Liverpool are reported to be interested in signing one of the most promising midfielders in the world.

Norwegian midfield sensation Sverre Nypan has been on the radar of several big European clubs - including Arsenal - since breaking into the Rosenborg first team back in 2022.

Nypan, 18, has already played 60 first-team matches for the Norwegian giants and was initially expected to move on in January. However the midfielder along with his father opted to stay put but have resolved to make a decision on his next move before summer.

Football Transfers reports that Liverpool have been scouting Nypan long-term and the club have expressed interest in recruiting him.

“We know the clubs’ interest in Sverre. It’s been very important. It’s not been interesting to be a pawn in a big game,” his father told VG.

“The clubs that are very interested are also very understanding of this choice and think it is completely okay. Sverre should be part of a long-term project and a generational change.

“He hasn't played a game since the first of December. When he signs in the summer and hopefully has been injury-free, he will be at his best. It is much better to show him off with that starting point.

“We are not going to wait until the summer window opens to make a decision.”

Man Utd also in race for £10m Nypan

Along with Liverpool and Arsenal, Manchester United and Aston Villa have been named as Premier League suitors for Nypan while Getafe in Spain have also been credited with interest.

Nypan has been likened to compatriot Martin Odegaard in his homeland, having contributed directly to 24 goals in his 60 outings to date. Last season he scored eight goals in 28 Eliteserien matches.

He is described as versatile, composed and highly capable from a technical standpoint - leading to Liverpool’s recruitment department identifying him as a player with immense potential. Crucially, he could be a key asset for the club long-term.

It’s believed that Nypan prefers a move to Arsenal, meaning the Gunners currently lead the chase, but the Reds are aiming to convince him that Anfield is the best destination for his development.

Liverpool have got an outstanding record of integrating elite young talents into the first-team picture and should be the right environment for Nypan to pursue a high-level career.

Rosenborg are open to selling Nypan for around €12 million (£10m) according to the report.
