Liverpool’s city rivals Everton have got a big off-season in store. Having staved off relegation yet again, the Toffees are finally set to move into their new Bramley Moore Dock Stadium in time for next season.

It’s fair to say the current line-up is not exactly stellar, meaning the owners - the Friedkin Group - and £12 million per year coach David Moyes have got some rebuilding to do.

Having scored only 34 goals in their 33 Premier League games thus far, you’d imagine signing a half-decent forward would be on the club’s to-do list.

Not so, apparently, with defence being eyed for an overhaul. With Jarrad Branthwaite having many suitors - reportedly Liverpool among them - it’s easy to see why Everton might be looking at centre-backs.

Of course, Liverpool’s own Jarell Quansah is reported to be on the radar but another name has emerged in recent days - and one that will be very familiar to Arne Slot.

Everton want to sign David Hancko

An Eredivisie champion and Dutch cup winner under Slot at Feyenoord, David Hancko now looks set to take the next step in his career.

The 27-year-old can play left-back or else left-sided centre-back and is expected to command around €50 million for Slot’s former club this summer.

The Slovakian was even linked with Liverpool - stretching back to Jurgen Klopp’s days - but it looks like he will be moving elsewhere this summer.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid are monitoring Hancko, who is under contract until 2028.

However the report also adds the intriguing possibility of one of Arne Slot’s favourites ending up on Merseyside.

“There are plenty of suitors for the Slovakian centre-back,” the report states.

“In the Premier League, for example, Friedkin's Everton would like him to build the defence of the future with him.

“Let's move up a level: Bayer Leverkusen, who probably won't be Xabi Alonso's anymore but who will still have the stripes of a great European team, have been looking for him for some time.

“And in Spain, arriving at the most fearsome competitor, there is Atletico Madrid.”

It probably wouldn’t be the best step for Hancko’s career but at least Slot might have the chance to get reacquainted with an old friend should this move go through.
