Arne Slot wants to make sure Liverpool keep one star despite heavy links away from the club. But will the Reds agree?

There are a good few players linked with exits from Liverpool right now. Trent Alexander-Arnold is the most notable, with Real Madrid opening the bidding for him at the end of 2024.

Alexander-Arnold is out of contract at the end of the season, of course. Real Madrid hope to make that happen a little earlier, offering the Reds a fee, rather than the 'nothing' Liverpool get if their right-back leaves in the summer.

Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk are in the same boat, though there don't appear to be any incoming offers this month. And those are just the players with expiring contracts.

Liverpool have rebuffed three offers for Ben Doak already. Two from Crystal Palace and another from Ipswich Town.

They want £30m - and the offers have been well short of that. We'll see what comes of that but it appears demand is heating up for the Scot.

And then there's Federico Chiesa.

Federico Chiesa's future

Chiesa has not had an easy time since moving to Liverpool. The Italian has battled fitness problems since the beginning, especially given his lack of a pre-season.

And that's led to troubles behind the scenes. Chiesa is struggling a bit, which naturally leads to talk that he could be off.

That has been publicly denied by his agent, who is adamant that the winger will remain at Liverpool. And just as well, because that's apparently what Arne Slot wants.

The Athletic reports that Slot is 'counting on' Chiesa over the second half of the season. The suggestion there is that he'll play a bigger role in the coming months.

This follows a report suggesting Slot wanted six forwards in his squad. Chiesa is one of those - and we imagine that's the primary reason the Reds bought him.

So expect to see more of Chiesa. Liverpool and Slot haven't given up, it seems, and the hope remains that he can live up to his incredible promise.
