The future of a number of Liverpool stars are in doubt heading towards the end of the season.

Three of the Reds’ biggest stars are out of contract, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and as it stands all three will be leaving for free.

The fate of all three stars is uncertain, but Alexander-Arnold has felt the most likely to leave for a while.

Real Madrid are the heavy favourites to secure his services if he does depart Anfield, with some reports even suggesting the deal is already done.

Now, Arne Slot may have inadvertently confirmed that the 25-year-old is indeed on the way out of his boyhood club.

Slot accidentally confirms Trent’s departure

Liverpool have been constantly linked with a number of replacements at right-back, but the head coach may have made his mind up on who he wants.

Speaking to Caught Offside, Christian Falk recently revealed that Slot has spoken on the phone to Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong and has told the 24-year-old that Liverpool are keen on a move for him this summer.

If Falk is correct, and Frimpong is indeed Liverpool-bound, then that is all but confirmation that this is Alexander-Arnold’s final season in Merseyside.

It is unlikely that Frimpong would settle for a place on Liverpool’s bench and there has been no indication that the Reds are looking to move on from current backup Conor Bradley, so all signs point towards a Trent departure.

The future of Liverpool’s right-back spot

Bradley, who has so far only been an understudy at Anfield, is a genuine contender to step up if Alexander-Arnold does leave Liverpool.

The Northern Ireland international has performed well when called upon over the last two seasons, and there is every chance that he has earned the trust of Slot and could become the first-choice for the Reds.

There is also the potential for Alexander-Arnold to stay. Nothing has been made official with Real Madrid, and Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes have until the end of June to convince the Scouser to stay put.

The other alternative is Liverpool look to the transfer market, and potentially to Jeremie Frimpong, to fill the void left by a departing Alexander-Arnold.

Nothing has been officially confirmed, but if Slot is already making calls to potential replacements it doesn’t look like Alexander-Arnold is destined to remain a Red.
