Arne Slot's 'area of concern' that can ONLY be solved with a transfer
Liverpool went into the 2024/25 season having made only ONE senior addition to the squad in last summer’s transfer window.
Federico Chiesa came in from Juventus for a fee that could ultimately reach £12 million with Richard Hughes and Arne Slot opting to rely on the squad members left to them by Jurgen Klopp.

It’s well known that the Reds would have done a deal for Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad but the midfielder opted against an Anfield move despite the club activating his €60m release clause.
The lack of transfer activity meant that potential shortfalls in the squad were left unaddressed. Across the season Liverpool have been suffering from a lack of options at centre-forward and injury issues in defence have also exposed the squad depth in that sector.
Arne Slot's 'area of concern' revealed
One issue which was ignored last summer that now needs to be corrected is at left-back.
Andy Robertson suffered several injury problems last season with Kostas Tsimikas coming into the side to replace him. And while Robbo has been fit for the most part this term, the 30-year-old is beginning to show signs of wear and tear.
Tsimikas is now pushing him hard for his starting berth and it is looking ever more likely that Liverpool will soon seek a new performer in the position. And while a new arrival probably won’t happen in January, it has been claimed that next summer will see a fresh challenger for the left-back spot.
“Left-back has been an area of concern at times with Andy Robertson enduring a difficult spell,” states a report in the Athletic. "Kostas Tsimikas, who was picked ahead of Robertson at Brentford last weekend, is not a long-term successor.
“However, strengthening in that department is more likely to happen in the summer than this month.”
There is no shortage of names linked with Liverpool in that position.
Milos Kerkez is among the standout contenders but other Premier League players linked with Anfield include Rayan Ait-Nouri and Antonee Robinson. Patrick Dorgu and Alvaro Carreras are also potential options should the Reds seek improvements.
A homegrown solution might well appear in the form of Calum Scanlon, who is finally enjoying a run of first-team football during his loan spell at Millwall.
