ANGER at FSG growing after yet another catastrophic transfer failure

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is now a Paris Saint-Germain player. The 23-year-old winger was unhappy at his contract situation at Napoli for a long time.

Antonio Conte’s side have seen fit to sell ‘Kvaradona’ while his value remained high instead of watching him run down his deal. They have banked a pretty penny too with the estimated transfer fee standing at €70 million (£59m).

Presumably this deal puts PSG out of the running for both Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz but those stories will have to wait for another day. Because what we are discussing here is Liverpool’s involvement - or lack thereof - in the pursuit of the Georgia forward.

A little over a week ago we were informed by transfer insider David Ornstein that Liverpool would be keen to add Kvara in this January’s transfer window, that the Reds might opt to take advantage of contract indecision on Napoli’s part and prise the player out of the club.

By that stage however PSG were already seen as frontrunners and in fact it barely took the Parisians any time at all to make an offer and contract Kvaratskhelia.

Now surely Richard Hughes and FSG knew this was the case. When was the last time that Liverpool went up against a fellow big team in a transfer battle and came out on top?

The line from Naples to Paris never looked anything but a straight one from the very first day it was revealed that he would be seeking to leave Napoli.

So why say it?

What is the point of Liverpool putting the word out that they would like to sign Kvaratskhelia when in actual fact he was always going to be heading elsewhere? It was a similar story for Leny Yoro back in the summer.

One theory might be to get the focus off the fruitless contract negotiations taking place.

The rise of "Monitoring FC"

None of Mo, Alexander-Arnold or Virgil van Dijk are signed up for next season and last week brought an endless barrage of stories that they were off elsewhere. This could very well have been a “good news story” - or a diversion tactic - to get the focus off the contract mess and onto something else.

Another reading might be that the club can say: ‘Look, we are ambitious, we did try for him but we couldn’t match the fee/ wages/ whatever’.

The only problem here is you add to the reputation of ‘Monitoring FC’; this idea that Liverpool are very interested in players until the moment James Pearce pops up on Twitter to say it’s not true.

But Liverpool fans are growing very tired indeed of this game. A quick search of “Kvaratskhelia” and “FSG” on X will reveal the depth of the anguish.

So now the questions must be asked: Were Liverpool EVER in the race for Kvaratskhelia? Or did they watch all of this unfold from a safe distance?

Now if he were a right-winger it might be more believable that the Reds were interested. Salah looks to be on his way and we need a replacement . But on the other side we have Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and - if required - Darwin Nunez.

Kvara’s favourite position is STACKED at Anfield. There would be no place for him without considerable outgoings and that kind of business was never possible in January.

Fans have had to watch Manchester City add Omar Marmoush and Arsenal move to the front of the queue for Martin Zubimendi this January. To ‘lose out’ on Kvaratskhelia without ever seemingly being in for him is another insult to supporters’ intelligence.

So please, FSG, stop telling us you’re in for players unless you’re actually in for them. And then go and sign them, eh? Because people have had enough of this game.
