Liverpool have found another brilliant midfielder who looks ideal for Arne Slot. Can they get a transfer done?

One of the highlights of the Liverpool team this season (the highlight?) has been the success of Arne Slot's midfield. The new boss has come in and brought every single one of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones up a level.

They're a brilliantly functioning quartet now, with Wataru Endo offering capable backup. But they weren't supposed to be the midfield.

Liverpool wanted Martin Zubimendi at the base of it, of course. The Spaniard rejected the club at the last moment, however, and that led to everyone pivoting to the current plan.

But the club almost certainly want to add a new midfielder later this year. Tyler Morton surely moves on, for one, while Endo seems set for a move after limited appearances in this campaign.

And so Liverpool are looking at midfielders. They might even have found a perfect one.

Liverpool like Angelo Stiller

Caught Offside reports that Liverpool have eyes on Angelo Stiller right now. Stiller, who plays for Stuttgart, has a €40m release clause in his contract - and that would be beyond what the Reds are willing to pay.

The German is a fantastic passing midfielder and exactly what Slot wants in his midfield, honestly. Stiller completes around 74 passes per 90 minutes this season and that figure was 79 last season.

But it's what he does with those passes that really catches the eye. Still has already completed more passes into the penalty area than he did last season, for instance, with 32 this season. He's doing that over 1.6 times per 90 - a fantastic number.

And that's the key here. Stiller moves the ball forward and gets it into dangerous areas. He completes a pass into the final third nearly 10 times per 90 minutes, while also completing over nine 'progressive passes'.

That latter metric shows how often a player moves a team forward. A 'progressive' pass is one that goes at least 10 yards further forward than any of the previous six passes. A line-breaking pass, basically.

Stiller combines it all to contribute 3.68 'shot-creating actions' per 90 minutes. These are almost entirely from passes and that figure would have him 7th in the current Liverpool squad.

Though, of course, Liverpool would expect that number to rise in a superior team like Liverpool's.

Then the kicker here is that Stiller doesn't turn 24 until April. He's still very much a young player with room for improvement.

At €40m, he could be a sensational signing.
