Andy Robertson is not getting any younger and the club's sporting director needs a fresh face to come in and take over from the Scotsman.
On the other hand, Salah's future is also up in the air. It's not guaranteed the Egyptian will stay at Anfield beyond the current season. Especially, as rumours intensify about a potential exit.
That is why it makes sense why Liverpool are currently pursuing a player who could potentially replace both of them.
Why Patrick Dorgu could replace both Mo Salah and Andy Robertson
According to a report in Italy Liverpool are 'preparing' a €40m offer to Lecce to sign Patrick Dorgu.
As we wrote about, Dorgu is a really interesting profile and he's been on the Reds' radar for a while.
At 20 years old he already had more than 50 Serie A game under his belt but one of the most fascinating aspects about him is his versatility rather than his experience.
Dorgu is an explosive left-footed left-back, who is defensively very sound. But he's not just a left-footed left-back, he's also a left-footed right-winger.
In fact this season he's played 10 games as a right-winger for Lecce. And in those 10 games he's scored some important goals, netting the first goal of the match three times - showing he can be a decisive player when playing further forward.
That makes the Danish international not just an ideal replacement for Robertson but also a potential heir to Salah's throne as well.
At 20 years old he can be moulded in various different ways. Like Gareth Bale, who started out his career as a left-back, Dorgu could easily be moved further up the field and follow in the footsteps of the Welsh Real Madrid icon.
It's why he's such an intriguing prospect and and it's why at €40m he's practically a bargain.
