Liverpool consider SURPRISE Andy Robertson decision

Liverpool are seemingly considering a surprise decision on Andy Robertson. The Scot's contract expires in 2026.

Andy Robertson has been at Liverpool since 2017 but it does feel as though his time at the club is winding down. That's despite the Scot still being the first-choice left-back at Anfield.

Kostas Tsimikas arrived five years ago but hasn't been able to break through. Robertson has never really been rivalled for his position since he saw off the competition from Alberto Moreno shortly after arriving.

That will certainly change this summer. Liverpool are in the market for a new left-back, with Milos Kerkez consistently linked with the club.

At the very least, then, there will be new elite-level competition for Robertson's place. It comes at a time when his form has dipped - understandably, given he's now 31 and has a particularly high-energy game.

The feeling has been that Tsimikas would be the one to move on, with Robertson then competing against the new signing for a spot in Slot's team. But it appears that might not actually be the plan.

Coming or going

Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos of Sporttime claims there's plenty of interest in Tsimikas right now. Premier League clubs - 'at least three' - are looking to sign him.

However, it's made clear that Liverpool have not actually decided to sell Tsimikas. They might keep him.

Either way, that presents a very surprising decision on Robertson. Not selling Tsimikas either means Robertson leaves instead or there is no new left-back.

It makes essentially zero sense to keep all three, after all.

Moving Robertson on and keeping Tsimikas would be a bold move. The latter is a couple of years younger and provides more in the long-term but he's also not as good.

Robertson, though, does have just the one year left on his contract. It could be that Liverpool try to get a fee for him.

Alternatively, Liverpool could persist with Robertson at left-back and just not sign anyone. That, again, would be a surprise as the Scot will need replacing at one point or another. Doing it now just feels natural - and largely necessary.

Now, we do expect it will be Tsimikas who ultimately moves on. But it seems Liverpool aren't entirely certain on that decision - and it could mean a surprise for Robertson this year.
