Darwin Núñez could be put in an awkward position with Liverpool linked to the player he headbutted in his Anfield debut.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are monitoring Crystal Palace’s defensive pairing of Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen.

Liverpool are long-time admirers of the England Euros star Guehi, but it has now emerged that his Danish teammate could be an alternative, with Crystal Palace’s price tag of over £50 million for Guehi proving a problem.

Nunez clashes with Joachim Andersen

Following on from a heroic performance in the Community Shield, some Liverpool fans were worried when new signing Núñez lost his temper and headbutted Andersen after what seemed to be only a minor altercation between the two.

However, Núñez has not seen red since and it appears he learnt his lesson from this early dismissal in his Liverpool career.

Nonetheless, tensions could rise in the Liverpool camp were Núñez and Andersen to be reunited as teammates.

How would the duo fit at Liverpool?

It has been well documented that Liverpool could be in the market for another central defender this summer and both of these Premier League players could be viable options.

There has already been much discussion on how Guehi could slot in at Liverpool but the proposition of adding Andersen to the back-line has been less spoken about.

Andersen’s compatriot and former Arsenal player, Nicklas Bendtner, made his opinion on the situation known when speaking on the Stolpe Ind podcast, saying:

“I would like to make [a proposal] where we put him in Liverpool’s team instead of Konate.

“[Konate] is so slow on the ball and has no idea where to play it. There, you can argue for what he is doing there versus the fact that Joachim could play there.”

Andersen has two years left on his contract and played in all 38 Premier League games for Palace last season so he may also be hard to pry away.

However, the fact that he is 28 and is not a homegrown player will fuel hope for Liverpool that his price tag will be substantially lower than his teammate.

Both Tottenham and Newcastle are also interested in the former Lyon man so the Reds could face a tough battle to get him through the door.
