So far this season, he has committed two penalty fouls and received a red card. As such, the club simply cannot afford to waste any time in bringing a new player in.

Kostas Tsimikas has often come in at left-back to try and shore up the defence, but his battle with injuries has meant that Liverpool have largely been forced to play the player they trust the least to deliver a faultless performance.

One transfer target that the club has up its sleeve is set to meet with officials later this month.

Liverpool ramp up interest in Alphonso Davies

Having played at left-back for Bayern Munich across seven seasons, winning the Bundesliga five times, Davies has quickly been recognised as a world-class defensive asset.

His electric pace means that he can transition from defence into attack in a matter of seconds and he is a player that almost every club in Europe will have admired during his time in Germany.

However, he is set to leave Bayern this season as a result of his contract expiring, meaning that unless a new deal can be agreed, he will move to a new club on a free transfer this summer.

Liverpool have been eyeing the Canadian up for some time, having initially scouted him in 2016 when he was at the very start of his career playing in MLS.

Now nine years later, the Reds have a desire to bring in a new left-back and their long-term scouting efforts of Davies could finally pay off if they can bring the 24-year-old to Anfield.

According to journalist Christian Falk, Davies' agent is set to start meeting with clubs from tomorrow and Liverpool are a club that will be set to meet with him about a potential move.

Securing Davies' services will be an ambitious task for the club to pull off, but he is one of many left-back targets that Liverpool have been assessing.

Both Antonee Robinson at Fulham and Milos Kerkez have also been players that the club are aware of, however, it is clear that Davies is the statistically superior option, and having already played at the top level for a number of years now, he would be the ready-made option for Liverpool to choose, who could seamlessly fit into Arne Slot's set up.

Nothing is agreed quite yet, and the competition for Davies' signature will be fierce, but the club could take a huge leap forward with negotiations if the meetings go well.
