Almost every top striker in Europe has been linked with Anfield move, but there are a few names that stand out.

Talks have already opened to bring Hugo Ekitike to Merseyside, as was exclusively revealed by Anfield Watch, but the Reds aren’t just looking at strikers playing abroad.

Newcastle’s Alexander Isak has been constantly spoken about as the marquee signing for Arne Slot’s side, but the latest reports suggest a deal could be out of reach.

Alexander Isak deal is not straightforward

Every supporter is aware of the mind-boggling fee it would probably take to get the Swede out of St James’ Park, but a new report from Football Insider has provided an update on Isak’s potential sale.

According to the report, Newcastle are going to demand a fee so high that no team will be willing to pay up and Isak is set to spend another season in the North East.

With the Magpies well in the race for a Champions League spot, Eddie Howe is reportedly increasingly confident he can keep Isak at Newcastle.

Newcastle’s plan is to simply demand too much money for their prize player, and it’s a plan that may well work.

Liverpool’s striker options

Isak would be an excellent addition at Anfield, but he isn’t the be all and end all.

Ekitike, Liam Delap, Julian Alvarez, Joao Pedro and Matheus Cunha are among the names linked with Slot’s side and, if Newcastle do price the Reds out of a move for Isak, Liverpool won’t hesitate to sign an alternative.

Liverpool have been burnt before by waiting out a big-money target who has then ended up not joining the club – just look at the Jude Bellingham, Aurelian Tchouameni and Moises Caicedo sagas.

Michael Edwards won’t be caught out in this way again. If Liverpool are going to move on from Nunez this summer they will need to sign a replacement.

Newcastle may be successful in pricing Liverpool out of a move for Alexander Isak, but the Reds will still be looking to sign a new no.9 regardless.
