Liverpool ready to DITCH Alexander Isak for dynamite £62m striker

Liverpool are on the hunt for a new striker - but it may not be Alexander Isak after all.

Liverpool want to sign a new striker. Anfield Watch understands that the Reds plan a major overhaul of their attack in 2025, wanting to give Arne Slot the forward line for his system.

This is very much Jurgen Klopp's squad, after all. Liverpool only made one addition in the summer, bringing in Federico Chiesa from Juventus.

And Slot barely uses him. Just 28 minutes across three fixtures in the Premier League so far.

But even the players Slot does use aren't exactly what he's after. The biggest problem is the centre-forward role, where neither Darwin Nunez nor Diogo Jota are reliable enough.

Jota scores goals when he plays but that's not very often. He's featured for around one third of Liverpool's minutes in the Premier League this season.

Nunez has a completely different problem. He's always available but you never know what you're getting. Could be a brilliant no.9 who produces the moment of magic you need (see last Wednesday) or more likely, someone who misses clear chances en masse.

In other words, Liverpool will spend to sign themselves a reliable striker. But it might not be Alexander Isak.

Alexander Isak or Benjamin Sesko?

Liverpool have consistently been linked with Isak over the last month, with David Ornstein the latest to make the claim that the Reds want to sign him. However, he also makes another claim.

Ornstein says in a Q&A for the Athletic that Liverpool won't get into a 'wild goose chase' over Isak. They'll see if Newcastle United are willing to sell to them and if they are, make an offer.

If not, they'll quickly move on. It's not 'Isak or nothing' as it was with Martin Zubimendi last summer.

And GiveMeSport offers a proper suggestion for an alternative. They understand that Liverpool hold a 'genuine interest' in RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko is one of the most promising young strikers in football right now, banging in the Bundesliga goals pretty consistently at 21. He'd be far cheaper than Isak, too.

Isak has a price of around £150m according to most, while Sesko would apparently cost just £62m, per Sky Germany. On top of that, we hold real concerns about the Swede, especially at that price.

This is one to watch, then. Sesko could be the striker, rather than Isak, depending on how this summer goes.

Slot will get his striker but we'll need to wait to learn exactly who that is.
